When you’re driving from Woodway to Hewitt in your new Nissan and you notice you have a flashing tire pressure light, there are a few items to keep in mind. If you’ve recently inflated your tires and they’re properly holding air, you might just need to reset your tire pressure light. Our team is always ready to help you learn simple vehicle maintenance tasks that can take care of at home. Read on to learn more, or ask the service experts at Douglass Nissan of Waco if you’d like more assistance.

Resetting Your Tire Pressure Light

When you reinflate your tires, your tire pressure light should go off on its own. However, if it remains on, follow these steps to help you get back on the road and ensure a safer drive on McGregor roads:

  • Drive at or above 50 mph for at least 10 minutes to reset the sensor. This can cause your sensor to reset the next time you turn on the car.
  • With the vehicle off, turn the key to the “On” position, but don’t start the car. Hold the TPMS reset button until the tire pressure light blinks three times, then release it. Start the car and wait 20 minutes for the sensor to refresh. The tire pressure monitor reset button is usually located beneath the steering wheel. If you can’t find it, check your vehicle’s user’s manual.
  • Inflate your tires to be three PSI over their recommended amount, then deflate them completely. Be sure to include the spare tire, as it may have a sensor as well. Once they’re all deflated, reinflate to the recommended tire pressure.
  • With the vehicle off, disconnect the positive battery cable with a wrench. Turn the car on and honk the horn for about three seconds. This will discharge any power still stored in the vehicle. Then reconnect the battery.

What Does a Flashing Tire Pressure Light Mean?

When your TPMS light flashes on your dash you might simply be wondering, “What does a flashing tire pressure light mean?” There are several reasons, but it’s important to know that a flashing dashboard light means you should pull over as soon as possible. While it could mean that there is a problem with the sensors, resetting your sensors might do the trick. No matter the issue, be sure to have both the battery and pressure sensors checked by service professionals to ensure the exact cause of the issue.
